A Human, Being.
Have you ever thought that you are called a human being? Or rather a Human, Being. If you ever wrote a letter to your future self about who you are now and who you would like to become, would it just include what you achieve, what you want, your goals and your dreams for relationship, work, family, travel etc? Or would it include who you are as a Human, Being in this present moment? Every next moment is actually your future self. Time is just an edge, meaning that when you say,”Oh, I’ll do that next year or I’ll do that someday, means you can’t quite do it now. One day is now, this very moment. There is also a great saying;
” Wherever you go, there you are!”
You take your body, thoughts, emotions and habitual patterns with you, no matter where you travel.
Of course, thinking is integral to being a human being but if you are continuously entangled with the stories and endless narrative in your head, you will miss the reality of just being. Directly being in each moment because, its just gone and a new moment arrived. Wake up to the fact that your life is only happening right now, despite your memories and your plans for the future. That’s ok as long as you are aware, that at the same time, you are distracted from what’s happening right now.
“The state and activity just being, is nothing but sketching a colourful painting onto the sky.”
Do you know how hard it is to stop and do nothing, especially these days with so much technology. We all have to be so busy. Busy as bees and they’re not going so well actually. Nor are we. Many people are taking pills, drinking heavily or taking drugs and numbing themselves out. Or they are working long hours and looking at a screen most of the time or suffer from some sort of mental health issues. 24/7 media adds to the frantic pace of our lives. We are so disconnected from ourselves, so much so, that the ‘selfie’ culture has overtaken direct experience. “Let’s take a selfie” rather than looking directly at the scene that is exciting them. We are rarely just present now and have lost the art of Being.
The art of contemplation, deep listening, silence and the sweetness of doing nothing needs to be re-discovered. Take time to be playful, have fun, look at the clouds, laugh about nothing, be kind and compassionate to yourself and others. Notice the beautiful butterfly that just hovered near you, the sun reflected on water, have a clear mind, not cluttered up with so many thoughts, float on the ocean without a care in the world. Being a human being is when our sentient essence, the deep calling to the depths of who we are includes the human and the Being parts of ourselves. Wouldn’t that be a good way to BE in your life every day?
“Enlightenment for a wave in the ocean is the moment the wave realizes that it is water.”
